Bielawa description, location, history. Poland map.
Bielawa is a town and a community in Dzierżoniów Poviat (land county), Dolnośląskie Voivodship (Lower Silesia Province).
The first reference to the town appears in 1288, the same year when the long-term dispute between Tomas II Zaremba (the bishop of Wrocław) and Henry IV Probus (the Duke of Wrocław and Cracow), the secular and ecclesiastical authority, ended.
Bielawa owes its development as well as its presence in the history books to the weavers, whose revolt was bloodily suppressed in 1844 (it was described by G. Hauptman). The beginnings of the textile industry in the town date back to the 18th century when the first workshops were established.
The development of the factories and the building industry transformed the industrial village into the town - Bielawa was granted town rights in 1924.
After World War II, Bielawa as well as the whole region of Lower Silesia have become a part of Poland.
